Welcome

Thanks for visiting my blog. I wish I could say as a pastor I have life figured out and have it all together but that would be...well..just plain lying. I've experienced success and failure, joy and sorrow just like most of us have in this life. So, what is shared here is part of my on-going story, my contribution of thoughts, questions, and lessons learned so far on this journey and anything else that comes to mind.

Four Habits Of A Healthy Leader - Andy Stanley

Have you ever said something to someone and then instantly regretted it? Whether it was a cutting tone or a poor choice of words, you suddenly wished you could take it back? Later, you may have wondered, “Where did that come from?”

Jesus says it came straight from your heart.

As leaders, we do a lot of talking. Every meeting, conference call, or tweet poses both opportunity and risk. We can inspire and encourage; we can just as easily offend and tear down. Words are that powerful.

If what Jesus said is true and our words are a reflection of our hearts, then the condition of our hearts will determine how we lead. It will influence how long people will follow us and how much of themselves they will be willing to invest in our vision. That is why it is important to discover the health of your heart. While I’m sure there are other causes of unhealthy hearts, I’ve identified four that seem to be the most common: guilt, anger, greed, and jealousy.

The guilty leader believes “I owe you.” He thinks he deserves to be punished for past bad behavior. A guilty leader keeps secrets by building walls and is often distant and distracted. He isolates himself by maintaining a professional and businesslike persona. He finds it difficult to trust his employees. As a result, a guilty leader has difficulty building and maintaining a team. His is a culture marked by micro-management and professional courtesy, rather than genuine community.

If you’ve identified these “guilty leader” qualities in yourself, there is a habit you can establish to counteract it. You can admit your own past failures and your current mistakes. It may not make sense, but people tend to be wary of leaders who deny failures or weaknesses, but will follow those who freely confess their mistakes and shortcomings.

The angry leader believes “You owe me!” She overreacts to unmet expectations, blames people rather than systems, and punishes failure. She has difficulty accepting responsibility for her own failures and focuses on the failures of others. This results in short fuses and depression. She lives in constant payback mode. The culture she creates is full of fear and cover-up, where right is defined by what pleases her. Team members spend more time anticipating her responses than figuring out what is best for the organization.

There is a remedy for this behavior as well. Successful leaders acknowledge they have grown the most from their failures. We need to look at the failures of our team members as opportunities for them to grow as well. We must practice and teach forgiveness. Below is a great illustration of forgiveness within the context of leadership.

Tom Watson, Sr., founder of IBM, understood this principle. A junior executive with the company once managed to lose over $10 million in a venture that was considered risky even by company insiders. When Watson found out about the disaster, he called the young man to his office. Upon entering, the young man blurted out, “I guess you want my resignation?” Watson allegedly responded, “You can’t be serious. We’ve just spent $10 million educating you.”

The greedy leader believes “I owe me.” Greed is a disease that does not only apply to your possessions or your bank accounts. A greedy leader is reluctant to share credit or the rewards of success. He often “steals” the good ideas of others and claims them as his own. Also, he will sacrifice the good of the organization for the sake of personal advancement. He is not concerned with fair play, but wants to win at any cost. His is a culture where greed breeds greed.

A powerful antidote to greed is to freely share the rewards of your success and to generously recognize the achievements of others. You will “share the spotlight,” even diverting it from you to others. People will willingly follow you if you aren’t threatened by their success, but instead actively encourage it.

The jealous leader believes “God owes me.” A jealous leader is quick to point out the faults of others, reluctant to facilitate someone else’s success, and is critical of successful people in similar fields. She is threatened by strong, talented, or popular people, and measures her own success in terms of others’ failures. Hers is a culture that does not recognize and reward high potential, but instead is filled with negativity and is void of leadership development. With “one chief and lots of Indians,” her organization will never rise above her abilities.

The most effective (and least intuitive) way to break the power of jealousy in your life is to publicly celebrate the things that threaten you privately. This includes celebrating the victories of those around you. When that leader of your rival organization receives the award you wanted, applaud him. Become his biggest cheerleader. It will transform your heart.

How Do You Maintain a Healthy Heart?
These heart conditions cannot be fixed simply through talent, education, or experience. They must be “monitored” on a regular basis. So, build into your calendar regular times to answer the following questions:
What is the condition of my heart?
What is currently going on in my life that I hope nobody discovers?
What is the one question I hope nobody asks me?
Am I angry with anybody?
Have I secretly celebrated someone’s failure in the past several days?
When is the last time I publicly celebrated someone’s success?
Just imagine what would happen if you were to adopt these habits. What could you accomplish? It begins with you, the leader. Remember, you shape the culture of your organization and you can determine the effectiveness of your leadership.

Refreshing season

A couple of month's ago the Lord impressed on my heart that the month of August would be the beginning of a new season in our church as well as the body of Christ. In my spirit I saw a white dove perched over the church representing the Holy Spirit bringing this refreshing season. Let me tell you, it has been confirmed over & over each and every week through our services and the testimonies that have been taking place. Last Sunday God's anointing & presence was definitely intensified and people flooded the front for a time of prayer. Also in the month of August we have seen record numbers in guest, attendance, people receiving salvation & being filled with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I just want to say glory to God for changing lives right before our eyes. This truly has been the beginning of a refreshing season.

I believe God is trying to prepare the body for revival. The harvest of souls is ready but the reapers are weak and unprepared. It is time for the five-fold ministry to equip the body for the works of the ministry and the edifying of the body. So many saints are not operating according to the powerful gifting God has given and living below the privilage and purpose in their lives. I pray we as ministers will press in by laboring in the word and prayer. I pray God give you a fresh word for this season in equiping, training & bringing understanding to the body of Christ.

I will blog more in detail later on this subject.

As of last week a prophetic word was spoken over Debbie & I as well as the staff and the church and I wanted to share with you. This was written down to the best of our knowledge of all that was said:

Prophetic Word

What has been like a dessert & seemed so dry now even in the dry dessert season God is bringing rain & prosperity to the house. Provision will come with great abundance. God is bringing kings to this house. We will be tackled down with provision for the vision– in the Bible to every priest (pastor) there was a 27:1 ratio of Kings – God is bringing & raising up kings. It’s not just coming…it’s already begun. Because of your obedience & the seeds that have been sown He will provide.

Growth, prosperity, & blessings will come easily & we will look around us and say where has it come from. We are moving from operating in the church dimension to operating in the Kingdom realm. We have been operating in the church realm and now we are being moved to the kingdom realm. People will be attracted to this church because of the Spirit that resides on the house. Just by walking into the building people will receive miracles, healing, signs & wonders. The presence of God will be so strong that the church will grow by leaps and bounds because of the Lord.

God is reaching into the future and bringing it to the now. That which we thought was going to take 3 to 5 yrs is going to happen very soon. We have a NOW anointing, square your shoulders and walk in it. It is now. Act like it. We should not act like it was coming but that it was here now! Even though there will be lack in the land you will say what lack. We will be overflowing with provision thus says the Lord.

Lord we declare it and recieve it in Jesus Name! This is the place and harvest time is NOW!

Stop Trying To Be Good Enough

From the beginning of time when Adam & Eve fell into sin, the relationship mankind had with God was broken. From this point in time all of mankind inherited the nature of sin and needed something to restore this relationship back into its proper place.
God created us because He desired an intimate relationship and fellowship with us in the first place. God had a plan all along because He knew we could not restore this relationship on our own. His plan came in the form of a human being, Jesus Christ. God came to this earth as a fleshly man so that He might experience everything we experience. He was tempted as we are tempted. The difference is He was able to conquer His self-will and lived a sinless life. He became the perfect sacrifice and was crucified on the cross for all mankind.
Why did Jesus do this? To restore the relationship that was broken in the beginning. Jesus took on all of our sin upon Himself. He took our past sins, our present sins and our future sin and has forgiven us so that we might have a right relationship with God. This is what we call the Grace of God. It is His undeserved and unmerited favor that we don’t deserve but because He loves us so much and desires and eternal relationship He was willing to go to a cross and defeat anything that would hinder our relationship with Him.
This is the Good News! The Bible says it this way..
2 Cor 5:21
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. NKJV
Col 2:13-14
13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses , 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. NKJV
Heb 10:16-17
16 "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them," 17 then He adds, "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more." NKJV
Romans 6:13
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. NKJV
John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. NKJV

If you have tried God before and failed or you have felt like God is angry with you then you have not experienced the true Grace of God. God is not happy with you one day and angry with you the next. A relationship with God is not about a list of rules that you are to perform in order to live up to His standards. Remember this, it’s not about YOU, it is about HIM and what He has already done on your behalf.
Your next step is to simply believe! Believe what? Believe that His work on the cross was enough for you. That His blood that was shed was for your forgiveness and that He has restored your relationship with our Heavenly Father. All He asks you to do is repent and believe. Repent means simply “to change one’s mind”. You need to change your mind about God, change your thinking to I am set free from all my past, present and future sins and it was only through Christ. If you are trying to be good enough stop trying. You will never be good enough! Only Christ was good enough!
When you realize the freedom you have and the grace you have received and the love that God has for you it will cause you to long to please Him with your life. It is the Grace of God, the Good News that causes you to want to give your life completely to Him.
If you are running from God, stop and run towards Him. God is Love, He is forgiving and He is gracious. He is greater than all your failures. Don’t wait until you “get it all together”. Come to Him in all your imperfections and He will restore you to wholeness. You will begin to live the Champion Life He has destined for you!

Staying Open To Change

During a "Wilderness" test we must stay open to change. God had rescued His people from slavery and Moses was desperately trying to lead them through the wilderness to the promiseland but they still had a "slave mentality". Because of their unwillingness to change and trust in God they continued to travel in circles for 40 years without ever entering into the destiny God had planned for them.

Change is the Constant Companion of Progress!

You cannot have progress without change. All of us desire progress but are unwilling to accept change. None of us would feel right if our son or daughter were still in diapers as a 6 year old. We would definitely desire change! When God is ready to take us to a new level we have to accept change or we chance losing our promotion.

Not all changes bring progress but all progress brings change!

We can also make the wrong changes. Wrong changes do not bring maturity and growth. If you desire to lose weight you must make the proper change to your diet. If I changed my diet by no longer eating chicken fried steak to eating fried potatoes I have made an improper change. (Man that sounds good right now!)

The people of Israel tried to change everything and everyone else but their wrong attitudes. They blamed their leaders, blamed one another and blamed God for their lack of progress. Followers blame leaders, leaders blame followers, government blames the people, the people blame the government for their lack of progress. People change churches, change jobs, change spouses but fail to make the proper change to themselves.

The Key to Proper Change Begins Within Us!

This is a Test!

More than likely you have experienced watching television and out of nowhere the program is abruptly interrupted with a loud irritating noise proceeded by “This is a test of the emergency broadcast system”. Without any notice or warning and usually right at the heightened moment of the program we were watching we endured a few seconds of inconvenience and comfort.

God often does the same to us. Here we are cruising along life's highway and He will throw in a “Test” at the most inconvenient time of our lives. It would be nice if these “Test” were preceded by, “This is a test of the Heavenly Broadcast system” but unfortunately the majority of the time we have no warning.

In school we are challenged with what we have learned by taking test in order to promote us to the next level. To graduate to the next grade level we must past the test. Our spiritual life is similar. In order to gain divine promotion and move into the full potential God has for our lives we must first pass the test of responsibility He has currently given us. Testing always precedes promotion!

God will put us to the test with things like our character, our attitude, our motivation, our obedience, our credibility & our integrity. He will test you in the “small things” to see if we can handle increase.

I remember when Debbie & I were building a new home the water pipes had to be tested with compressed air in order to see if the pipes had the capability of handling the pressure and to check for any leaks in the pipe joints. The air pressure was left in the pipes for several days to check for continued durability and to pass inspection. If there were any slow leaks in the system they would be revealed over time by a decrease in the air pressure gauge and would have to be found and repaired.

God will put you under pressure in order to prove your durability. Before He allows you to handle your next divine assignment He wants to make sure you can handle the test. Over time if there are any leaks in our spiritual life they will be revealed. Why would God test us? Because you were created for His purpose and He has plans for your life. He desires to fulfill His purposes in us and bring us into our divine destiny. You were created for abundant living and life in the fullest and that only comes when we are fulfilling our God Given destiny!

Remember, this is only a test! Are you in the middle of a test? Are you passing the test?

The Big 40

This week my wife Debbie turned the big 40. I'm not sure she is exactly thrilled about it but she seems to be taking it pretty well. It's crazy how time seems to pass so slowly when we were younger but now it seems we're moving at warp speed as the years pass.

To often we allow milestones and accomplishments in people's lives to pass by without taking proper time to celebrate with them and show honor on their behalf. And how often have we waited until a person has passed from this life to talk about them and how they have had a tremendous effect on our lives. I do hope & pray at my funeral someone shows up and that my life has impacted others but I don't want to wait till I die to celebrate. Besides you don't even get to participate in the celebration. What fun is that? When your dead, your dead...it's all over baby!

That being said...I took time with my wife this week. We hung out, we shopped, we talked, we laughed, we ate homemade ice cream, we went to the movies, we had a big party with friends & family! Why? Because she deserved it! The woman of my life...my best friend...she is an incredible mom to our 3 children, an unbelievable wife to me and the most loving, caring & giving person to those around her. I have watched her grow in her walk with God and share His compassion and love with others in an unbelievable way. She truly imitates a Christ like life. Proverbs 18:22 says, "He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the LORD." I can truly say I have obtained favor from the Lord because of my wife. I could not be who I am and where I am without her.

Today I honor Debbie and celebrate her life and how awesome of a person she is. Thank you to all the people that celebrated with us and helped make this day in her life one worth remembering. We love you all more than you know!

HAPPY 40TH HONEY!....they say 40 is now the new 30!
